I'm a Southern girl born and raised in Florida all my life until I met the most amazing man in 1994 and we moved to his hometown in Georgia. I was always "that skinny girl", even after having my daughter in 1991 (whew, that year makes me feel old), I got back into my size 0 (yes, Z-E-R-O) in about 3 months. When I reached my early 30's, for the first time in my life, I started gaining weight. For several years, I was in denial and didn't even think about how big I was getting. I just kept buying bigger clothes. Then I weighed, after buying size 16 pants...161 lbs! I went from trying to gain weight all my life to just get my weight over 100 lbs to being overweight. It was depressing but a much needed eye opener. By 2007, though I struggled with finding the right workout, I was down to 137 lbs. I didn't want to be size 0, but to be in a SINGLE digit pant size--two pant sizes from my goal and I changed jobs. Managing a 5-physician office, it's extremely stressful but I loved it, and we all know that stress can pack on the pounds.
In Feb 2009, I also developed multiple illnesses that brought my weight loss journey to a screeching halt! I had my gallbladder removed, had months of complications from that, was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (Hashi's is an auto immune disorder in which you have hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism at the same time...and there is no treatment until it leads into hypothyroidism), menopause, chronic insomnia, stomach ulcers, migraines, severe irritable bowel syndrome, borderline diabetes...and already having other medical conditions--ruptured discs in my neck and back with arthritis, neck surgery and a heart condition, I was at the end of my rope and desperate for anything that would help me because though my doctors tried everything, NOTHING helped. I gained over 60 more pounds. I never thought that I would be obese...EVER.
